Finland is a heaven for lovers of great outdoors. There are dozens of national parks, wilderness areas and other nature destinations suitable for day hikes or serious multi-day treks.
One can rent a kayak at the Baltic Sea coast of a canoe in one of Finland’s thousands of lakes. Fishing is allowed nearly everywhere and a nation-wide day permit costs only a few euros.
Wildlife watching in Finland is world-class: spend a night in a photography hide and you’re almost guaranteed to see a brown bear (or many of them!), wolverine or even more elusive wolf.
Wintertime outdoor activities include skiing, skating (also on natural sea ice), dog sledding, snow shoeing, ice fishing and of course ice swimming!
